RAMALLAH, February 8, 2016 (WAFA) - A detainees’ committee revealed Monday that a total of 450 Palestinian minors are currently held in Israeli detention centers, prisons and military camps.
Detainees and Ex-Detainees Committee said that the minors, aged between 13 to 17, are held in Sahron, Majeddo and Ofer detention centers, and the majority of them, accounting for 270 minors, are held in Ofer military detention center.
Nine minors were sentenced to administrative detention and that about 95% of detainee minors were subject to various forms of torture, assault and insults during detention and interrogation as they were apprehended during late night hours.
The committee shared minor detainees’ terrible affidavits about brutal torture during interrogation.
It said they were beaten, kicked, insulted, threatened, subject to psychological pressures and held in military confinement during interrogation. They were coerced to make confessions or sign affidavits they have not examined.
The committee noted that Palestinian minors remain a main target of Israeli detention raids as about 2,500 minors had been detained since the start of 2015.
Loay Akka, an attorney representing the committee said detainees were increasingly fined by Israeli courts and subject to unjust sentences.
Akka said as soon as a Palestinian detainee is tried in an Israeli court, she is fined, noting that in 2015 Palestinians held in Ofer detention center were fined NIS 90,000.
He slammed fines as part of the unjust and harsh economic reprisals approved by Israeli courts against Palestinian detainees and their families.
