RAMALLAH, February 15, 2016 (WAFA) - The killing of five Palestinians by Israeli forces after allegedly attempting to stab soldiers across the West Bank hit the front page headlines in the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that six Palestinians, including a girl, were shot dead by Israeli forces in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Hebron and Jenin.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that five Palestinians, including three minors, were shot dead by Israeli forces in Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Jenin.
A 17-year-old Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli forces at a checkpoint, north of Bethlehem, after allegedly attempting to stab a soldier. The teen was identified as Na‘im Safi from the Bethlehem town town of al-Ubediya.
Two 15-year-old Palestinians were also shot dead by Israeli forces near al-‘Araqa village, west of Jenin, after the teens allegedly opened fire on soldiers. The teens were identified as Nihad Waqed and Fuad Waqed.
A 14-year-old Palestinian girl was shot dead by Israeli forces near Hebron’s Ibrahimi Mosque after she allegedly stabbed a soldier. She was identified as Yasmin al-Zarou.
Israeli police killed two Palestinians outside Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate after they allegedly attempted to carry out gunfire and stabbing attack on policemen. They were identified as Mansour Shawamreh and ‘Amar ‘Amr, from the Ramallah village of Qibya.
Al-Quds added that 18-year-old Kilzar al-‘Uweiwi, shot dead Saturday after purportedly attempting to stab an Israeli soldier in Hebron, was laid to her rest.
In the aftermath of these killings, the Palestinian cabinet was reported as calling for urgent international intervention to provide the Palestinian people with protection.
Highlighting the situation of hunger striking detainee Muhammad al-Qiq, who has been hunger striking for 82 consecutive days in protest of his administrative detention without charge or trial, the dailies reported that Israeli military prosecution rejected a request to transfer al-Qiq to a Palestinian hospital for treatment.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on medics in Afula Hospital as saying al-Qiq is prone to death at every minute.
The three dailies highlighted a Peace Now Movement report about Israeli settlement construction in 2015.
Al-Quds reported in this regard that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had set up over 7,638 new settler units in “isolated” settlements since 2009.
Al-Ayyam reported that the Israeli government had published calls of tenders for building 11,243 new settler units. The paper together with al-Hayat al-Jadida explained that settlement construction concentrated in certain areas in order to undermine the two-state solution.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighted a B’Tselem report on Palestinian house demolitions in the Jordan Valley. B’Tselem stated that the Israeli military has been “systematically” displacing Bedouins from the Jordan Valley.
Al-Ayyam reported in this regard that Israeli forces demolished 22 dwellings and 41 storage structures over three days in the Jordan Valley.
The paper and al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted a video footage showing an Israeli soldier pushing a Palestinian disabled man in a wheelchair backwards.
