HEBRON, February 10, 2016 (WAFA) – Israeli forces, accompanied with staff from the so-called Israeli civil administration, Wednesday, broke into Nonqor area in Hebron, where they took photographs and sampled one of the artesian wells there,
One of the locals, Abdallah al-Shirbati, informed WAFA that forces and officers of the civil administration, carrying equipment, maps, and imaging devices, took photographs for the area and sampled a Roman-era artesian well there.
According to one of the farmers, the water well is used for agricultural purposes, expressing fear this Israeli measure could come as a prelude to take over the well, which he stressed plays a significant role in feeding neighboring wells in the area.
Palestinian Water Authority Minister Mazen Ghoneim, told al-Monitor, “The water situation in Palestine is very complex in light of Israel’s control over 90% of water resources, in addition to its refusal to increase the amount of drinking water sold to Palestine since 1995, which totals up to 52 million cubic meters, for $55 million.”
