GAZA, June 2, 2015 (WAFA) –
Israeli naval boats Tuesday opened gunfire towards Palestinian fishermen in
their fishing boats sailing offshore Gaza City, injuring at least three of
them, according to witnesses.
WAFA correspondent said the
three fishermen were transferred to Shefa hospital in Gaza, where their medical
condition was described as moderate.
Almost on a daily basis, Israeli
naval boats open fire on Palestinian fishermen sailing offshore the coasts of the
besieged Gaza Strip, a blatant violation of a ceasefire deal reached between
Hamas and Israel following hostilities in the summer of 2014.
The ceasefire deal stipulated
that Israel would immediately ease the blockade imposed on the strip and expand
the fishing zone off Gaza's coast, allowing fishermen to sail as far as six
nautical miles from shore, and would continue to expand the area gradually.
In March alone, there were a
total of 35 incidents of shootings, incursions into the coastal enclave, and
arrests, according to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights. The shootings
left 10 injured, including three minors, said the center.
On May 25, two Palestinian
fishermen were injured in two separate attacks by Israeli navy targeting
Palestinian fishing boats in Gaza territorial waters.
Mohammad Bakr, 26, was injured
when his boat came under fire by Israeli navy boat near the northern Gaza
shoreline. He sustained moderate wounds and was moved to hospital.
Few hours later Imad Bakr was
injured by Israeli navy gunfire at the same location, local sources reported.
