RAMALLAH, May 28, 2015 (WAFA) – Israeli airstrikes on Gaza at
dawn Wednesday hit the front page headlines of the three Palestinian Arabic
dailies on Thursday.
Al-Quds said Israel launched a series of airstrikes on multiple
locations across Gaza, while Hamas, the de facto authority in Gaza, blamed
Israel for escalation.
Al-Ayyam said neither Hamas nor Israel are interested in further
escalation in the current period.
The dailies quoted EU Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini,
who called on the Israelis and Palestinians to resume peace negotiations,
saying the situation on the ground was “not sustainable.
Al-Ayyam quoted Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, who said that
Palestinians' statehood was an “investment in peace”, rather than a
“humanitarian relief”.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam said the Israeli municipality of
West Jerusalem demolished a Palestinian-owned house in Jerusalem’s neighborhood
of Silwan, under the pretext of construction without a permit.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said an Amnesty International
report claimed that Hamas had massacred 23 Palestinians during the 2014 Israeli
aggression on Gaza.
The three dailies said former UK Premier Tony Blair resigned
from his post as Middle East peace envoy.
Al-Ayyam quoted senior Fatah official Nabil Shaath as saying
that Blair has contributed nothing to the Palestinian cause.
