RAMALLAH, May 26, 2015 (WAFA) – The three
Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Tuesday issue on the Israeli police
apprehension of six Palestinians in Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque on Monday.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said
Israeli police arrested six worshipers while they were present at al-Aqsa
Mosque compound in East Jerusalem late Monday.
Al-Quds said the new Israeli government,
headed by Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is currently examining ending the
Jordanian guardianship over Islamic holy sites in East Jerusalem.
Al-Ayyam quoted a United Nations' report
stating that the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories is no longer
tenable.
It said that a recently published study
indicates that 67% of Palestinian refugees in Syria have become refugees for
the second time, due to the ongoing conflict in Syria.
Al-Quds said the Israeli authorities
sentenced Aziz Dweik, Speaker of the Palestine Legislative Council (PLC), to 12
months in prison and to pay a fine of 6,000 Israeli shekels ($1,500).
It said a Palestinian fisherman was
injured by live bullets after an Israeli naval boat fired live ammunition at
him, while sailing offshore Gaza.
Al-Ayyam quoted an unidentified Israeli
army source as saying that the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq cannot be
deemed a threat to Israel’s security in the current period.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Israeli
authorities reopened a road that connects Ramallah city with nearby Beitin
area, after 15 years of unjustified closure.
It said an Israeli court sentenced former
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to eight months in jail on charges of
corruption.
