RAMALLAH, May 25, 2015 (WAFA) – Premier Rami Hamdallh’s visit to
the Bedouin community of Abu Nuwwar to the east of Jerusalem that is facing
forced displacement by Israeli forces together with right-wing Israeli
settlers’ attempts to force their way into al-Aqsa Mosque compound hit the
front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.
Covering Hamdallah’s visit as its main front page news article,
al-Quds quoted Hamdallah as stating: “The [Palestinian[ leadership is continuing with its efforts on the international
level to confront ]Israeli[ plans to displace the Bedouins.”
Hamdallah was reported in both al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida as
pledging $50,000 in direct support for the Bedouin community of Abu Nuwwar.
It is worth
pointing out that dozens of Palestinian families living in this community were
informed that they would be forced out of their land in less than a month to
make room for the expansion of the illegal Israeli settlement of Maale Adumim.
Israeli plan to forcefully displace the community comes as a part of
longstanding plans to build settler units in the so-called E1 area.
On the other hand, al-Ayyam reported
in its main front page news item that Palestinians confronted right-wing
settler groups and “Temple Mount” organizations’ attempts to storm the al-Aqsa
Mosque compound.
Al-Quds reported in this regard that
Palestinians foiled the ‘Jewish pilgrims’ attempts to force their way into the
compound, while al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli occupation forces
restricted Muslim worshippers’ access into the mosque.
Member of PLO Executive Committee Saeb
Erekat was quoted in al-Quds as saying: President Mahmoud Abbas affirmed that the
key to peace is ending the Israeli occupation and establishment of the
Palestinian state.
Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser
Judeh was reported in al-Quds as calling for launching the ‘final-status
negotiations’ and achieving the two-state solution.
The Arab League was reported in
al-Quds and al-Ayyam as warning about the collapse of education in the
Palestinian territories as a result of Israeli policies.
Greece’s Syriza party was reported in
al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida as calling the Greek government to recognize
the State of Palestine.
