RAMALLAH, May 21, 2015 (WAFA) –
Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails Mohammad Idrees Rashdan, 38 years old
from the village of Einabus near Nablus, has launched an open-ended hunger
strike after being denied family visits by the Israeli authorities, the
Palestinian Prisoner’s Club (PPC) reported on Thursday.
PPC said Rashdah has not seen
any member of his family for six years due to security pretences, and is
serving a 22-year sentence in jail. So far, Rashdan served 15 years in prison.
Since early May, former
Palestinian hunger striker and prisoner Khader Adnan started an open-ended
hunger strike in protest of his administrative detention in Israeli jails,
without charge or trial. He was transferred to solitary confinement by the
Israeli prison administration as a punitive measure.
Under administrative detention,
Israel detains Palestinians without a direct charge and holds them in jail for
indefinite and renewable periods.
Palestinian detainees have
continuously resorted to open-ended hunger strikes as a way to protest their
illegal administrative detention and to demand an end to this policy which
violates international law.
