RAMALLAH, May 21, 2015 (WAFA) –
The three Palestinian Arabic dailies focused in their Thursday issue on the
Israeli police killing of a Palestinian
resident of Jerusalem on Wednesday, for allegedly attempting to run over two
Israeli police members.
The three papers said Imran Abu
Dhaim, 42, was shot dead by Israeli police after allegedly attempting to run
over two Israeli Border Police officers in Jerusalem’s al-Tur neighborhood.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam
quoted President Mahmoud Abbas as saying that Israel must stop all settlement
activities and accept a two-state solution based on 1967 borders.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said the Humanitarian Coordinator for the occupied
Palestinian territory, James Rawley, and the Director of UNRWA Operations West
Bank, Felipe Sanchez, expressed
grave concern over recent Israeli plans to
transfer Palestinian Bedouins in the central West Bank from their current
communities.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam
said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suspended a pilot program,
proposed by 'Defense' Minister Moshe Ya'alon, to separate Israeli and Palestinian
bus travel lines in the West Bank.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said the
Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem demolished a Palestinian-owned building
and a house in Jerusalem’s Ras al-Amoud neighborhood, under the pretext of
construction without a permit.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida
said the Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem has approved the construction
of about 90 settlement units in the illegal settlement of Har Homa, built
illegally on the land of Jabal Abu Ghnaim, in East Jerusalem.
Al-Quds quoted Islamic Jihad
official Khader Habib who said that Hamas denied conducting negotiations with
Israel on a permanent ceasefire in recent months.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on
a draft resolution expected to be proposed by France to be presented ahead of the Security
Council earlier than September of 2015, to solve the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict within 18 months.
The paper highlighted Abbas’
meeting with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs
Fredrica Mogherini, during which he said “We are with the peace process, but
the Israeli side must take responsibility.”
During the same visit, Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed Mogherini of his support to a two
state solution for two people, despite his last-minute rejection of the
creation of a Palestinian state in an appeal to the right during the most
recent election campaign.
