RAMALLAH, April 12, 2026 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa chaired a meeting of the Council of Governors on Sunday at his office in Ramallah, attended by Presidential Advisor for Governorate Affairs Lt. Gen. Ismail Jabr and several relevant ministers, to discuss mechanisms for strengthening consumer protection and enhancing coordinated government oversight of markets, prices, and commercial services.
The Prime Minister reiterated the need to intensify monitoring of markets and prevent exploitation as a top priority under the current difficult conditions, calling for increased field inspections of shops, factories, and marketplaces to ensure compliance with government directives.
He stressed the importance of improving coordination among regulatory bodies in all governorates, particularly those with law enforcement authority, to address cases of price manipulation, exploitation, and fraud, and to ensure legal accountability for violators.
The meeting also discussed a new draft consumer protection law aimed at combating product manipulation, smuggling, and violations of standards, while strengthening penalties, in preparation for its submission to the Cabinet.
The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for private sector initiatives carried out in coordination with the government, particularly commitments not to raise prices, noting their role in supporting national resilience during this challenging period.
