Palestine welcomes Arab League resolution on Israeli actions in Jerusalem and prisoner law

RAMALLAH, April 3, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the resolution issued by the League of Arab States during its extraordinary session at the level of permanent representatives, addressing Israeli actions in occupied Jerusalem and the approval of a law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners.

In a statement, the ministry praised the resolution’s call to place those responsible for advancing the law on international, regional, and national terrorism lists, and its warning that applying the death penalty exclusively to Palestinian prisoners constitutes an entrenchment of an apartheid system imposed by Israel.

The ministry also commended the resolution’s demand to suspend the membership of the Israeli Knesset in the Inter-Parliamentary Union and other parliamentary frameworks, and to impose punitive measures on it and its members.

It further welcomed the Arab League’s call for the UN Human Rights Council’s fact-finding mechanisms to investigate allegations of torture, starvation, and inhumane conditions imposed on Palestinian detainees, alongside the implications of the new law.

The statement also praised the call on the International Committee of the Red Cross to intensify its efforts to gain immediate and unrestricted access to Israeli prisons and detention centers.

The ministry stressed that aligning diplomatic efforts with the Arab League resolution requires concrete steps from Arab and Islamic countries, as well as the broader international community, to implement its provisions swiftly and effectively.
