RAMALLAH, October 25, 2025 (WAFA) – The Fatah movement said on Saturday that statements issued by several Palestinian factions the day earlier reaffirm that the genuine guarantor of any unified Palestinian vision is commitment to national legitimacy, embodied in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the State of Palestine, as the sole and unified framework capable of safeguarding the national project from marginalization or alternative agendas.
In a press statement, Fatah stressed that unilateral policies and attempts to bypass or undermine national legitimacy will never succeed, as sovereignty and jurisdiction over the land of the State of Palestine are the exclusive right of the Palestinian people and their legitimate institutions. This, the movement added, requires all parties to commit seriously to this principle and translate it into clear, practical steps on the ground.
The movement emphasized that all Palestinian forces should rally around the leadership’s core priorities since the onset of Israel’s all-out war on the Palestinian people — namely achieving a ceasefire, securing Israel’s full withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid, restoring normal life in the enclave, preventing displacement, and facilitating the exchange of prisoners and hostages. Fatah said this path is the correct and unified course that all factions should pursue instead of engaging in narrow, factional agendas that weaken the national position.
Fatah also said that the agreement on the formation of a professional administrative committee made up of qualified figures to manage Gaza’s affairs for a limited period is an important and necessary step, provided that the committee operates under the umbrella of the Government of the State of Palestine. Any disregard for this reference, the movement warned, would entrench division and serve Israel’s goals of separating Gaza from the West Bank and Jerusalem, and obstructing the realization of an independent, unified Palestinian state.
The statement noted that Israel continues to undermine the Palestinian National Authority by withholding Palestinian tax revenues, suffocating the Palestinian economy, escalating settler terrorism, and pursuing the annexation of Palestinian lands in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and in the Gaza Strip.
Fatah reaffirmed that security in Gaza is the responsibility of the official Palestinian security forces, and that any potential international presence should be limited to the borders, not within the Gaza Strip itself, with a clear and defined mandate from the UN Security Council that does not infringe upon Palestinian sovereignty or the role of its legitimate institutions.
The movement reiterated its categorical rejection of any form of guardianship or mandate over the Palestinian people, stressing that the role of any international peace committee should be limited to monitoring within a specific timeframe to ensure adherence to the ceasefire, oversee reconstruction, and implement agreed plans — without infringing on Palestinian independence or the authority of the State of Palestine.
Regarding the issue of weapons, Fatah said that addressing this matter must come through a comprehensive national framework that ensures one authority, one legitimate weapon, and one law — safeguarding unity, internal stability, and denying Israel any pretext to perpetuate the aggression or deepen the division.
On national unity, Fatah affirmed that achieving genuine unity that serves the supreme interests of the Palestinian people remains a steadfast national goal. It said a comprehensive national dialogue is a necessity, not a political luxury, but stressed that unity must rest on solid foundations that meet the aspirations of the people and adhere to national constants.
Central to these foundations, the movement underscored, is recognition of the PLO as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and commitment to its national, political, legal, and international obligations — including adherence to international legitimacy and the unified Palestinian vision based on territorial, legal, political, civil, and security unity within the State of Palestine.
Fatah concluded by affirming that the Palestinian leadership, under President Mahmoud Abbas, continues to work steadfastly and responsibly to consolidate the ceasefire, restore life in Gaza, and protect the independent Palestinian national decision within the framework of unified national legitimacy, while preventing any party from undermining unity or compromising the core principles of the Palestinian national project.
