RAMALLAH, August 25, 2026 (WAFA) — Vice President of the State of Palestine Hussein al-Sheikh met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty to discuss the situation in occupied Palestine and efforts to implement the peace plan.
The meeting was part of ongoing communication and consultation regarding developments in the Palestinian issue and efforts to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
The meeting, held in the Egyptian city of El Alamein, was also attended by Palestinian National Council Speaker Rouhi Fattouh and Fatah Central Committee member and General Intelligence Chief, Major General Majid Faraj.
The discussion focused on the current catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip resulting from inhumane Israeli practices there. Emphasis was placed on the critical importance of the international community pressuring Israel to fulfill its obligations under President Trump's peace plan, including the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid and the implementation of withdrawals from the Gaza Strip, thus paving the way for the Palestinian Authority to resume its full responsibilities in Gaza.
They also addressed the deteriorating situation in the West Bank amid daily settler attacks against Palestinians, continued expansion of Israeli settlements and ongoing violations targeting Christian and Muslim holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem.
The meeting concluded with a discussion of the ongoing situation in the West Bank. Minister Abdel-Aty reiterated Egypt's complete condemnation and categorical rejection of all illegal Israeli measures aimed at imposing a new reality on the ground or undermining the unity of Palestinian territory.
He stressed the necessity of preserving the unity of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and creating a serious political horizon leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The meeting also addressed efforts to achieve Palestinian reconciliation and restore Palestinian unity, as well as the continuation of the ongoing political reform process.
For his part, al-Sheikh and his accompanying delegation expressed their deep appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role in supporting the Palestinian cause and defending the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. They commended Egypt's efforts and contacts to halt the escalation, advance the implementation of the peace plan, and support the Palestinian Authority, emphasizing their commitment to continuing close coordination and consultation with Egypt in the coming period.
