RAMALLAH, October 8, 2025 (WAFA) – Palestinian prisoners’ institutions stressed that the total number of Palestinian detainees in Israeli custody since the beginning of October 2025 had reached more than 11,100.
They underlined in a joint statement, this is the highest number since the outbreak of the Al-Aqsa Intifada in 2000, based on documentary data available to relevant institutions.
According to the report, 1,460 prisoners are serving sentences, including 350 serving life sentences or awaiting life-term verdicts. Among them, Abdullah al-Barghouthi is serving the longest sentence with 67 life terms, followed by Ibrahim Hamed with 54.
There are 17-long-term prisoners who have been incarcerated since before the Oslo Accords, including Ibrahim Abu Mokh, Ibrahim Bayadseh, Ahmad Abu Jaber, and Samir Abu Na’meh, all detained continuously since 1986.
Ibrahim Abu Makh, Ibrahim Bayadseh, Ahmed Abu Jaber, and Samir Abu Nimah. The number of prisoners serving sentences between 10 and 20 years is 131, and those serving sentences between 21 and 30 years is 166.
The number of female prisoners stands at 53, including three from Gaza, and two girls. The number of child prisoners is more than 400, held in Ofer and Megiddo prisons. The number of prisoners detained without trial, according to the Israeli Prison Service, is approximately 3,380, as of October.
The number of administrative detainees reached 3,544, the highest percentage compared to the number of arrested and convicted prisoners classified as "unlawful combatants." The number of detainees classified as "unlawful combatants" reached 2,673. This figure does not include all detainees from Gaza held in Israeli military camps and classified as such. It is worth noting that this classification also includes Arab detainees from Lebanon and Syria.
Before the onset of the ongoing war, there were around 5,250 prisoners in Israeli jails, including 40 women, 180 children, and approximately 1,320 administrative detainees.
