President Abbas reaffirms commitment to Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Palestine, national unity, and protection of holy sites

RAMALLAH, August 24, 2026 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated the Palestinian people in the homeland and diaspora, as well as the Arab and Muslim nations, on the occasion of Mawlid al-Nabawi, the anniversary of the birth of Prophet Mohammed.

The President extended his warmest congratulations and sincere wishes on this blessed occasion, praying to God Almighty to bring it back to the Palestinian people with their aspirations for freedom and independence fulfilled, their independent, sovereign Palestinian state established on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and to the Arab and Muslim nations with goodness, prosperity, and blessings.

The President affirmed that the anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, with its values of mercy, justice, tolerance, love, and preservation of human dignity, is an occasion from which the Palestinian people draw lessons of patience, steadfastness, and hope, particularly amid the grave challenges they face.

On this blessed occasion, President Abbas called for preserving the existing historical and legal status quo of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, respecting their sanctity and religious significance, and halting all attacks, violations, and attempts to alter their character and identity.

The President stressed the need to safeguard the holy city of Jerusalem and its holy sites and reject any measures that could undermine their religious and historical significance.

President Abbas stressed the importance of strengthening national unity, preserving the unity of the Palestinian land and people, and continuing the national struggle with steadfastness and wisdom until the Palestinian people attain their legitimate national rights to freedom, self-determination, and independence.

The President affirmed that, despite the suffering and sacrifices endured by the Palestinian people, they will remain steadfast on their land, committed to their rights and national identity, and continue their struggle until their national goals are achieved.

The President prayed to God Almighty to have mercy on the souls of the Palestinian martyrs, and to grant a speedy recovery to the wounded and freedom to the prisoners.

President Abbas also prayed for the protection of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, including Jerusalem, the refugee camps, and the diaspora, wishing that this occasion returns with their aspirations for freedom, independence, and peace fully realized.
