Foreign Minister Aghabekian meets Slovenian President, delivers letter from President Abbas

LJUBLJANA, August 26, 2025 (WAFA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Aghabekian met today with President of Slovenia Nataša Pirc Musar, during which she delivered a written letter from President Mahmoud Abbas.

President Pirc Musar reaffirmed Slovenia’s support for the Palestinian people and her personal and national commitment to continuing efforts at the European and international levels to defend Palestinian rights and advance the peace process. She stressed that the ongoing violations in Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, have shaken the conscience of the world and cannot be accepted or ignored.

She praised Palestinian diplomatic efforts and expressed Slovenia’s readiness to work with its partners to ensure the success of the upcoming New York Peace Conference next month, emphasizing that the time has come to implement the two-state solution on the ground.

For her part, Minister Aghabekian thanked President Pirc Musar for her firm support of Palestinian rights, including Slovenia’s recognition of the State of Palestine and its consistent positions in international forums. She highlighted the dire situation facing the Palestinian people amid the ongoing genocide, starvation, and violations by Israeli occupation forces and settlers.

Aghabekian briefed the Slovenian president on the Israeli attack yesterday that killed five journalists in a strike on the Nasser Medical Complex, which also claimed the lives of dozens of Palestinians. She noted that the number of journalists killed during Israel’s assault on Gaza exceeds the total number of journalists killed in all wars since World War II.

She stressed that the situation in Palestine has become catastrophic, particularly with the continuation of settler attacks and Israeli policies aimed at fragmenting the West Bank. She urged concrete steps based on the recent European Union report that recognized Israel’s commission of war crimes and crimes against humanity, reiterating that the two-state solution is the only path to peace and that the international community must assume its responsibilities to support it.

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Pirc Musar reaffirmed Slovenia’s steadfast position in supporting peace efforts and promoting stability, stressing that Slovenia will remain an active voice for justice and peace.
