Cabinet warns of Israel's plan to reoccupy Gaza City and forcibly displace nearly one million Palestinians

RAMALLAH, August 26, 2025 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Cabinet warned Tuesday of a dangerous Israeli plan aimed at reoccupying Gaza City and destroying what remains of its neighborhoods, homes, and facilities, stressing that such a move would force nearly one million Palestinians into renewed displacement under conditions that lack the most basic requirements of life.

The Cabinet cautioned that this scheme would also worsen overcrowding in the southern areas of the Strip, an area already devastated, uninhabitable, and suffering from severe and continued restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid alongside the rapid spread of famine.

It further noted that Israel’s admission of targeting journalists, civil defense crews, and patients at Nasser Hospital yesterday came only after the crime was documented live on camera. The Cabinet called for this crime and countless others to serve as a catalyst for stronger and more effective international pressure to stop Israel's genocidal war against our people in the Gaza Strip, as well as in the West Bank, which is facing an unprecedented colonial onslaught and a surge in settler violence.

In its weekly session held in Ramallah, the Cabinet also warned of the worsening financial crisis and its repercussions on essential sectors, particularly the health, education, and security sectors, given the continued Israeli withholding of Palestinian clearance revenues. It urged intensified international pressure to release these critical funds in order to prevent any interruption in the provision of basic and much-needed services.

On this note, Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa stressed the Government’s ongoing efforts to secure financial resources to cover accumulating obligations, instructing the relevant authorities to continue implementing measures that alleviate the burden on public employees, ensure the provision of essential services, and support areas affected by Israeli colonial expansion and colonial-settler attacks.
