OCHA warns of deteriorating health access in West Bank amid Israeli restrictions

NEW YORK, January 24, 2025 (WAFA) – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has issued a warning about the worsening access to healthcare in the West Bank, citing ongoing Israeli restrictions on movement and mobility.

In a statement, OCHA revealed that 68% of healthcare service points in the region are no longer able to operate for more than two to three days per week, while hospitals are functioning at only 70% of their full capacity.

These severe restrictions, including road closures, prolonged delays at checkpoints, and the construction of new gates at village entrances, have made it increasingly difficult for Palestinians to reach essential services and workplaces.

The statement further highlighted the tragic loss of life in the West Bank, with 34 Palestinians, including six children, killed by Israeli occupation forces since the beginning of January. This toll includes 12 people killed during the ongoing Israeli assault on the city of Jenin and its refugee camps.

OCHA also noted a surge in attacks by Israeli settlers against Palestinian citizens and their property, which have led to at least 17 injuries and significant damage to buildings, including homes and vehicles, in the past week.
