AMMAN, August 25, 2026 (WAFA) – Vice President Hussein Al-Sheikh today met with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al-Safadi to discuss developments in the occupied Palestinian Territory and ongoing coordination and consultations between the two sides.
The meeting focused on the dangerous deterioration in the occupied West Bank. The two sides warned against the continuation of Israel's illegitimate actions, including terrorist attacks by colonists, colonial settlement expansion, land confiscation, and the siege imposed on the Palestinian economy, which are pushing the West Bank toward an explosion, constitute a flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, entrench the occupation, and undermine prospects for peace.
They condemned the escalation of terrorist attacks by colonists against Palestinians, as well as Israel's continued systematic campaign targeting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), including the tightening of restrictions on the agency and its institutions in occupied Jerusalem.
They also condemned the decision by the occupation authorities to issue tenders for the construction of hundreds of colonial settlement units as part of the "E1" colonial project east of occupied Jerusalem, describing the move as a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
The two sides affirmed the need to halt Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem and Israel's systematic attempts to alter the existing historical and legal status of Islamic and Christian holy sites.
They also stressed the importance of implementing the outcomes of the ministerial meeting in support of Jerusalem and its holy sites, which Jordan hosted on August 8.
Regarding developments in the Gaza Strip, the two sides affirmed the need to consolidate stability, fully implement all provisions of US President Donald Trump's plan for Gaza, and ensure the unhindered entry of sufficient and sustainable humanitarian aid into the Strip to alleviate the ongoing humanitarian disaster.
They called for an effective and serious regional and international effort to halt Israel's illegitimate actions and stressed that realizing an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution, is the only path to achieving a just and comprehensive peace that ensures lasting security and stability in the region.
The two sides also agreed to continue cooperation and coordination regarding developments and issues of common interest.
The meeting was attended by Fatah Central Committee member Majed Faraj and President of the Palestinian National Council Rawhi Fattouh.
