President Abbas chairs Council of Governors meeting to review field, security situation

 

RAMALLAH, August 25, 2026 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas today chaired a meeting of the Council of Governors at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, during which the field and security situation in various Palestinian governorates was reviewed and discussed.

The meeting was attended by member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Ziad Abu Amr; Presidential Advisor for Governorate Affairs, Lieutenant General Ismail Jabr; Interior Minister Ziad Hab Al-Reeh; Presidential Advisor and Special Envoy Riyad Al-Maliki; Head of the Presidential Court Intisar Abu Amara; and Presidential Legal Affairs Advisor Wael Lafi.

President Abbas received briefings from the governors on the overall situation in the governorates, including the ongoing escalation and attacks by the occupation authorities and colonists.

The President stressed the importance of strengthening citizens' resilience and providing all available means to support their steadfastness on their land.

The President also underscored the importance of concerted efforts to ensure the success of the legislative elections scheduled for November 28, 2026, and called on citizens to participate in the elections, thereby reinforcing their role in choosing their representatives through a transparent and fair process.

The meeting also addressed the ongoing attacks by the occupation forces against the centers and premises of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Jerusalem and Qalandia, stressing the need to preserve the agency's institutions and ensure the continued provision of its services in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.

President Abbas further stressed the need to uphold the rule of law and maintain internal security and stability to safeguard the Palestinian people's national assets.
