RAMALLAH, August 25, 2026 (WAFA) — The Palestinian Presidency called on the UN Security Council to convene urgently and assume its legal and political responsibilities by taking binding decisions and measures to halt Israeli attacks on UN facilities and institutions in Jerusalem and Qalandiya.

 The attacks were carried out by the so-called Israeli Minister of Internal Security in preparation for the demolition of UNRWA facilities in Qalandiya. The Presidency demanded protection for such institutions so they can fulfill their duties towards Palestinian refugees in accordance with international law.

The Presidency emphasized that targeting UN facilities and institutions in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, constitutes a grave violation of international law and the inviolability of international institutions, and represents a dangerous escalation that cannot be tolerated.

The Presidency said the attacks form part of an ongoing Israeli policy targeting Palestinians, their institutions and national rights, alongside continued Israeli military operations in Gaza and the West Bank, including killings, arrests, demolitions, displacement, settler violence, land seizures, settlement expansion and efforts to annex Palestinian territory.

The Presidency emphasized that what is happening in Jerusalem, Qalandiya, and the West Bank is part of a comprehensive policy aimed at undermining the existence of the Palestinian people, altering the geographic and demographic reality of the occupied Palestinian territory, and entrenching the occupation, annexation, and settlement expansion, thereby jeopardizing the chances of achieving peace and a two-state solution.

It affirmed that the continuation of these policies in the absence of international accountability encourages the Israeli government to persist in its violations and poses a serious threat to security and stability in the region, as well as to the entire system of international law and international legitimacy.

The Presidency also renewed its call to the international community to implement the United Nations resolutions related to the Palestinian issue, foremost among them Security Council Resolution 2334, and to stop all illegal Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution, leading to the end of the occupation and the realization of the independence of the State of Palestine on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
