ILLINOIS, November 17, 2024 (WAFA) – Hundreds of activists have taken to the streets of Chicago, calling for a ban on arms exports to Israel in an effort to halt the ongoing military onslaught on Gaza.
The demonstration, organized by a coalition of human rights groups, Palestinian solidarity organizations, and members of the Arab and Muslim communities, was part of ongoing weekly protests that have been taking place across the U.S. since October 2023.
The rally in Chicago drew a diverse crowd of demonstrators who marched through the city to demand the U.S. government stop supplying weapons to Israel, which continues to commit war crimes against the Palestinian people. Activists held signs reading "End the Genocide in Gaza" and "Stop Arming Israel," while chanting slogans in solidarity with Palestinian victims of the genocide.
In parallel, a separate demonstration took place in Dallas, Texas, where hundreds of protesters gathered outside the venue of the so-called Global Conference for Israel, which is often cited as the largest Zionist conference in the world. Protesters in Dallas denounced the ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza and the involvement of the U.S. in supporting Israel's military operations.
The protests are part of a broader movement across the United States aimed at drawing attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and advocating for an end to the ongoing Israeli campaign of ethnic cleansing in Palestine.
The calls for an arms embargo on Israel have gained significant traction, particularly among progressive and pro-Palestinian groups, who argue that the U.S. government must stop its military aid to Israel until it halts its military offensive in Gaza and complies with international law.
