Israeli troops shoot Palestinian at southern West Bank checkpoint

HEBRON, Friday, July 22, 2022 (WAFA) – Israeli troops today shot a Palestinian worker at a major military, west of Hebron city, according to local and security sources.

They said that Israeli soldiers manning the permanently-staffed Tarqumya Checkpoint, the last checkpoint before entering Israel, opened fire towards Palestinian workers on their way to their workplaces inside Israel, hitting one by a bullet in the foot.

The casualty, a resident of Yatta city, south of Hebron, was rushed to a hospital, where medics described his injury as light.

Hundreds of Palestinians work in Israel without a permit and often police chase them and detain them before sending them back to the occupied West Bank where work is more scarce than in Israel and pay is much less.

Israeli severely restricts Palestinians’ freedom of movement through a complex combination of approximately 100 fixed checkpoints, flying checkpoints, settler-only roads and various other physical obstructions.
