RAMALLAH, April 3, 2011 (WAFA) -  Nabil Sha’th, Fatah central committee member and  head of the Palestinian constitutional committee ,  Sunday said  that  completing and announcing the Palestinian constitution bring us closer to announcing the Palestinian State in September.

He told, Raya FM, a Local Palestinian Radio, that “preparing the Palestinian constitution emphasizes demanding the UN General Assembly to recognize the Palestinian State”, adding that “running the Palestinian Authority isn’t enough, we want an independent Palestinian State”.

He pointed out that the Palestinian constitution committee will meet on Monday to discuss the constitution’s draft which we stopped working on since 2004.

President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) assigned the committee to resume its work on the draft which was broadly discussed inside and outside of Palestine.

 In addition the committee will discuss in its meeting tomorrow any necessary changes to be applied on it; “which will be an opportunity to enable as much Palestinians in participating in the constitution’s preparation process”.

PLO Executive Committee stressed, in its meeting last Sunday, on the importance of reactivating the work of the constitution committee within the next six months, in order to announce the Palestinian State by September. It added that the final draft will be presented to the Palestinian legislative authorities in the right time.
