RAMALLAH, May 15, 2026 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs condemned the burning of a mosque and several civilian vehicles by Israeli colonists at dawn on Friday in the village of Jibiya, northwest of Ramallah.
In a statement issued on Friday, the ministry said the attack was not an isolated act but part of a systematic policy and official incitement by the Israeli government aimed at intimidating Palestinians and targeting their presence and religious identity.
The ministry described the burning of mosques as “a cowardly terrorist act” that reflects “an extremist mentality that respects neither religions nor international law.”
It added that the international community’s silence regarding repeated attacks against Islamic and Christian holy sites encourages the occupation authorities and colonists to continue such violations.
The ministry called on residents to remain present in mosques and protect them from colonist attacks. It also urged international organizations, particularly UNESCO and human rights institutions, to assume their responsibilities and provide urgent protection for places of worship.
The statement further called on the Arab and Islamic worlds to take immediate action in support of Islamic and Christian holy sites, which it said are facing a fierce campaign by the occupation authorities.
