JERUSALEM, May 15, 2026 (WAFA) – Israeli occupation authorities on Friday forced a Palestinian woman to demolish her own home in the al-Suweih neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Governorate said that forces compelled Awatif Mahmoud al-Ghoul to demolish her house in the al-Suweih neighborhood of the city, adding that she had no choice but to do so to avoid paying heavy fines and costs imposed by the municipality if the demolition were carried out by its machinery, under the pretext of lacking a building permit.
Since the beginning of the year, Israeli authorities have demolished or forced the demolition of more than 200 homes and structures in Jerusalem.
Authorities in the city regularly require Palestinians to carry out self-demolitions on the grounds of unlicensed construction. Those who refuse face forced demolition and additional financial penalties imposed on property owners.
