OIC condemns Ben-Gvir’s Al-Aqsa compound incursion

JEDDAH, May 15, 2026 (WAFA) – The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation condemned the storming of the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque by hard-right Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, alongside groups of Israeli colonists under the protection of Israeli forces.

In a statement, the organization denounced the raising of Israeli flags and the performance of provocative rituals inside the mosque compound, calling the move a blatant assault and a deliberate provocation to the feelings of Muslims worldwide.

The OIC reiterated its longstanding position that Israel, as an occupying power, has no sovereignty over the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites. It stressed that all Israeli measures and actions in Jerusalem are null and void under international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

The organization also held Israel fully responsible for the consequences of continued violations at the site and renewed its call on the international community to act to stop attempts aimed at altering the geographic, demographic, historical, and legal status of occupied Jerusalem, particularly regarding Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The statement warned that such actions risk fueling further violence, tension, and instability in the region and beyond.
