Jordan condemns Ben-Gvir’s Al-Aqsa incursion and settler provocations in Jerusalem

AMMAN, May 14, 2026 (WAFA) – Jordan’s Foreign Ministry condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, which coincided with the so-called “Flag March,” as well as the provocative practices by extremist settlers who raised Israeli flags inside the compound under the protection of Israeli police and prevented worshippers from accessing the site.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the ministry said the violations constitute a flagrant breach of international law, an unacceptable provocation, and a serious violation of the historical and legal status quo, stressing that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Jordanian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fuad Al-Majali reaffirmed Jordan’s absolute rejection and condemnation of repeated incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli ministers, officials, and extremist settlers, as well as the provocative actions and restrictions preventing worshippers from reaching the mosque.

He said such actions represent a clear violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and constitute incitement aimed at imposing new realities at Al-Aqsa Mosque and attempts to divide the site temporally and spatially.

The spokesperson warned of the consequences of continued violations and escalating measures, calling on the international community to adopt a firm stance compelling Israel, as the occupying power, to halt its violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and stop provocative practices by extremist ministers.

He also reiterated that the entire 144-dunum area of Al-Aqsa Mosque is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, and that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department affiliated with Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs is the sole legal authority responsible for managing the mosque and regulating entry to it.
