President Abbas Condemns Israeli Ground Attack on Gaza

AMMAN, January 3, 2009 (WAFA)- Chief of the Negotiations committee in the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) Dr Saeb Erekat announced, late Saturday, that President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian leadership firmly condemn the expansion of the Israeli criminal aggression on the Gaza Strip.

 

He said that the President and the Palestinian leadership held the Israeli Government responsible for the dangerous consequences of the continuation of this aggression.

 

He also affirmed that President Abbas has made numerous phone calls with all Arab and international parties to immediately end this aggression without any conditions, calling on the international community to take its responsibility to protect the Palestinian people. He asserted the importance of holding a Security Council meeting to put an end to the aggression on Gaza and to stop the bloodshed.

 

On the other hand, the Palestinian Presidency Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh, that the President continues his efforts in cooperation with the European Union and the French President Nicolas Sarkouzy and in coordination with Arab Ministers of Foreign Affairs to reach out to the Security Council to end the Israeli Aggression on Gaza. 


Gaza Plight: 465 Martyrs and 2350 Wounded

 

GAZA, January 3, 2009 (WAFA)- The Death Toll of the Israeli Aggression on Gaza reached, Saturday, 465 martyrs and more than 2350 wounded in the Israeli aggression on Gaza as hospitals there lack pharmaceuticals and medical equipment.

 

On the eighth day of Gaza Tragedy, the Israeli massacres killed 465 Palestinians and wounded 2350 others, according to official sources in the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

 

The sources added that Gaza hospitals suffer from a sever shortage in some essential medications, despite the aid that has arrived.

 

Hospitals also lack medical equipment, sheets and blankets and suffer from damages resulting from the Israeli attacks on surroundings, such as broken windows and doors.


Israel Begins its Ground Attack on the Gaza Strip

 

GAZA, January 3, 2009 (WAFA)- Israel began, late Saturday, a ground incursion into the Gaza strip from three directions, eye witnesses reported.

 

Witnesses added that Israeli military vehicles entered the Gaza Strip from the directions of Rafah Airport, Al-Mintar Crossing and Beit Hanoun Crossing.

 

Other military vehicles were seen advancing toward Karm Abu Salem crossing and East of Beit Lahia, while flares and heavy shooting.

 

Israeli military sources had, earlier, affirmed via Israeli Radio that Israeli Ground Forces advanced toward the Strip. They did not give any information about their number and destination.

 

In the same context, medical sources from Beit Hanoun Hospital, north of the Gaza Strip, that nine Palestinian arrived to the hospital suffering from serious injuries due to the artillery bombardment on several areas north of the Strip.

 

In the meantime, Israeli warplanes attacked a gas station northeast of Gaza City.
