Woman Gives Birth at Israeli Military Checkpoint in Hebron
HEBRON, January 7, 2008 (WAFA)-A Palestinian woman, of Hebron city in the West Bank, gave birth on Monday at an Israeli military checkpoint as she was denied access to a hospital.
Her husband, Ashraf Sidr 32, said that his wife 23, gave birth at a military checkpoint at the entrance leading to Tel al-Rmeida neighborhood in the centre of the city, where his family lives, adding that the will of God alone saved the new born Ahmed of a doomed death.
Sidr revealed that the Israeli soldiers, stationed at the military checkpoint, prevented him and his wife while they were heading to the government hospital in Hebron and refused to open the gate railway which closed the street. They held them for about half an hour under a pretext of security reason.
"My wife delivered on the side of the road moments before the arrival of the Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance which had been summoned for this purpose, which in turn transferred the mother and baby to hospital.
