Jordanian King: UN Role Important to Push Peace Process
AMMAN, March 27, 2007, (WAFA) - King of Jordan, Abdullah II, stressed Tuesday on the important role of the United Nations in pushing the Middle East peace process forward and to exploit Arab and international efforts to bring the Palestinians and Israelis back to the negotiating table.
During a meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, King Abdullah called for seizing the current opportunity to achieve just and comprehensive peace in the region through the Arab peace initiative, which forms a basis for solving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and establishing an independent Palestinian state.
The King also noted the importance of continuing coordination with Arab and international parties to revive the peace process in line with the two-state solution and international legitimacy resolutions.
Failure to achieve peace, he said, will lead to more violence that would negatively affect the future of the region's peoples.
