"My Brother Arafat" Pours Tears in Gaza
GAZA, August 11, 2005, (WAFA)- As soon after the film ended and the lights of the Red Crescent Theatre in Gaza turned on. I turned my face to see that tears filled the eyes of the viewers.... "I could not stop my tears, I remembered President Arafat and felt he is still a live," Ibrahim Kahadra 24, said after watching "Arafat My Brother", directed by Rashid al-Masharwi, on Tuesday night.... Khadra said that he cried several times during watching the "impressive which revives warm moments in his memories." "As the film produces several questions what would happen after Arafat, we also ask about what happened to our President", he added.... While I was in the front of the theatre, I observed a teenager was wiping her tears.... Kinan said: "I remembered Arafat and recalled the days I saw him before his last days", and added that it was a very impressive film. Kinan covered her face with hands and walked away.... Near a pond at the entrance of the theatre, a group of girls were chatting on the film.... Mai Nasir (college student) said "Soon after I saw the picture of President Arafat hugging children, I felt that I became a child again my tears showered my cheeks".... She added that he will never be forgotten and will always have a place in her heart.... The film was presented, this night, by the Cinema Club of the Palestinian Section of the International Union of the Francphonic Press (SP-UPF) in coordination with Ministry of Culture and the Red Crescent Society.... Deputy Minister of Culture, Ahmed Dahbour, praised the achievement of director al-Masharawi pointing out to other achievements like "Curfew".... Pointing out to the two Lama Brothers, Dahbour mentioned to the Palestinians as the pioneers the Arab cinema, recalling that they could not continue their message because of NAKBA.... Before the film, Deputy Minister of Culture, (poet) Dahbour, concluded his speech with reading a special poem praising President Arafat.... Hassan al-Bal''awi, the Secretary General of , said that the SP-UPF tried to present the film on the birthday of President Arafat (August 4) but it was delayed because of technical problems.... He added that the director (lives in Ramallah) tried to attend the presentation but he could not because of the Israeli obstacles and checkpoints.... The SP-UPF has been preparing for several cinema activities for children and for foreign movies in the near future.... Fourty two years old, Raji Mostafa, said that he is so happy to see the revival of the cinema activities in Gaza after several years of bloodshed and Israeli bombardment.... S.A.S.
