In a conversation with President Abbas, Swiss counterpart affirms opposition to unilateral steps

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, June 30, 2020 (WAFA) – In a telephone conversation, the President of the Swiss Confederation, Simonetta Sommaruga, affirmed to President Mahmoud Abbas her country’s strong opposition to unilateral steps and any alterations to international law and United Nations resolutions, in reference to Israel’s plans to annex occupied Palestinian territory, calling on the Palestinians and Israelis to engage in dialogue.

Sommaruga also stressed that her country will continue to provide support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine refugees as well as to efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Abbas told his Swiss counterpart that he appreciates Switzerland‘s stances in support of adherence to international law and UN resolutions, and its continuing support of UNRWA.

He affirmed the Palestinian position rejecting the American so-called deal of the century, which he said contravenes all UN resolutions, stressing his rejection of Israeli annexation plans, whether in whole or partial.

The two leaders also discussed the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.
