RAMALLAH, July 28, 2026 (WAFA) — The Palestinian Ambassador to China, Jawad Awad, delivered a written message from President Mahmoud Abbas to Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday during a meeting with Gao Biao, Deputy Director-General of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The message addressed the urgent need for international action to halt the ongoing Israeli aggression and colonist terrorism against the Palestinian people in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
For his part, Gao Biao thanked Ambassador Awad for conveying President Abbas's message to President Xi Jinping, emphasizing that the close relationship between the two presidents has contributed to strengthening bilateral relations and elevating them to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
He affirmed that China is closely monitoring the dangerous developments in the occupied Palestinian territory, particularly the attacks carried out by colonists against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and expressed his country's condemnation of these practices.
He reiterated that China's position on the Palestinian issue is firm and principled, and that it will continue to support the establishment of a fully sovereign and independent Palestinian state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
He emphasized that the two-state solution, in accordance with international law, is the only way to achieve a just and lasting settlement of the Palestinian question.He affirmed that China is deeply concerned about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and continues to provide humanitarian and relief assistance to the Palestinian people.
He affirmed his country's readiness to continue supporting reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip and to bolster development projects in the West Bank. He stressed that China, as a responsible major power, will continue to support the Palestinian cause and the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people.
For his part, Ambassador Awad said the message comes amid a dangerous escalation by Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory and ongoing violations against Palestinians, including settler attacks on civilians carried out under the protection of the Israeli army, along with killings, injuries, the burning of homes and property, land seizures, and the establishment of additional settlement outposts.
He emphasized that what is happening in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, is not an isolated incident, but rather a systematic Israeli policy aimed at imposing new realities on the ground through settlement expansion, escalating settler terrorism, and undermining and weakening the institutions of the Palestinian National Authority.
He warned that these policies undermine prospects for implementing the two-state solution, threaten regional security and stability, and seek to forcibly displace Palestinians from their lands.
Ambassador Awad called for an end to the ongoing Israeli aggression, a halt to all settlement activity, and the implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which affirmed the illegality of settlements in all Palestinian territories.
He also called for providing international protection for the Palestinian people and ensuring that Israel, the occupying power, respects its obligations under international law and international humanitarian law.
Ambassador Awad highlighted the deep historical and strategic relations between the State of Palestine and the People’s Republic of China, expressing the Palestinian leadership’s appreciation for China’s steadfast support for the rights of the Palestinian people. He also commended China’s political, humanitarian, and developmental support to the State of Palestine, including President Xi Jinping’s initiative to provide $100 million in aid to the Palestinian people.
Ambassador Awad also briefed the Chinese side on Israel’s continued illegal withholding of Palestinian tax revenues, currently estimated at approximately $5 billion. This exacerbates the financial crisis, undermines the Palestinian government’s ability to meet its basic obligations, and negatively impacts various vital sectors and services, especially the health and education sectors.
Ambassador Awad briefed the Chinese side on President Mahmoud Abbas's decision to hold Palestinian legislative elections on November 28th, emphasizing that this step is taken to renew democratic legitimacy, enhance the participation of the Palestinian people in political life, and solidify the work of national institutions on democratic foundations.
This, he explained, will contribute to unifying the Palestinian ranks and protecting the national project. He noted that the elections will include Palestinians in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, based on the unity of the Palestinian land, the unity of the Palestinian people, and their national institutions.
He stressed that the participation of Palestinians in East Jerusalem, both as candidates and voters, is an inalienable national right, and that any Israeli attempt to obstruct the elections in the Holy City constitutes a violation of signed agreements and international law.
He also affirmed the State of Palestine’s firm position in support of the One China principle and its rejection of any interference in the internal affairs of the People’s Republic of China, praising China’s growing and responsible role on the international stage, and affirming the State of Palestine’s support for the initiatives launched by President Xi Jinping, foremost among them the Global Security Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Belt and Road Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative.
