ROME, Sunday, May 24, 2020 (WAFA) – Seventy Italian lawmakers has urged Premier Giuseppe Conte to take action against Israel’s illegal move to annex parts of the occupied West Bank.
Seventy members of the Italian parliament has sent a letter to Conte, urging him to condemn Israel’s unilateral move to apply sovereignty over, or in other words to annex, the Jordan Valley and the illegal colonial settlements in the occupied West Bank in violation of international law.
They also urged their parliament to take action on the domestic and European-Union levels to prevent the Israeli annexation move, which is aimed to end the peace process and the two-state solution.
Highlighting the letter importance, Palestinian ambassador to Italy Abeer Odeh stated that the letter came as a response to President Mahmoud Abbas’ speech declaring an end to all agreements and understandings with Israel and the United States.
She pointed out that the letter, which was issued by Italian lawmakers who have long experience in international policy, especially Middle Eastern policy, emphasized the legitimacy of the Palestinian people’s rights and the question of Palestine.
She noted that she was in constant contact with politicians and lawmakers representing all Italian political parties in order to convey to them the daily suffering of the Palestinian people, who are languishing under the yoke of Israeli occupation, with focus on the Israel’s discriminatory policies in Jerusalem, daily raids, and the situation of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
