OIC welcomes adoption of resolutions on Palestine by Human Rights Council

JEDDAH, March 31, 2026 (WAFA) – The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Tuesday welcomed the adoption of several resolutions on the Question of Palestine by the United Nations Human Rights Council during its 61st session, held in Geneva from 23 February 2026 to 31 March 2026.

The Human Rights Council adopted a resolution titled “Human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and the obligation to ensure accountability and justice“, which aligns with ICJ Advisory opinions and Provisional Measures and reaffirms the Commission of Inquiry’s mandate to report on both the direct and the indirect transfer or sale of arms, munitions, parts, components and dual-use items to Israel, the occupying power.

Another resolution titled “Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and in the occupied Syrian Golan“ was adopted, which affirms that Israel’s settlement policy constitutes a serious violation of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention’s prohibition of the forcible transfer of the protected population and the transfer of the occupier’s population into occupied territory.

The resolution also reinstates the Commission of Inquiry’s mandate to report on settlers engaged in acts of violence, intimidation, harassment, or terror against Palestinian civilians and the actions taken by Israel, the occupying power, and by third States to ensure accountability for violations of abuses of international law.

The Human Rights Council also adopted a resolution titled “Right of the Palestinian people to self-determination“, reaffirming the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. The Council called on all States to fulfill their responsibility to support the Palestinian people in exercising this right.

During the session, the Council further adopted a resolution titled “Human rights in the occupied Syrian Golan“, which underscores the systematic human rights violations committed against Syrian citizens in the occupied Syrian Golan and calls for accountability and respect for international law.
