President Abbas reaffirms cessation of all agreements if Israel annexes Palestinian territories

 

RAMALLAH, Wednesday, September 11, 2019 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas reaffirmed today the Palestinian position on the cessation of all agreements signed with Israeli if the later decides to impose sovereignty on any part of the occupied Palestinian territory.

Abbas said this during his meeting with Luxembourgish Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn and his accompanying delegation in Ramallah, where they discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories.

The President affirmed that the announcement made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding annexing the Jordan Valley, the northern Dead Sea and a number of illegal West Bank settlements ends all chances of achieving peace and undermines all international efforts to end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, slamming it as a clear violation of all United Nations resolutions and international law.

He praised the position of Luxembourg and the European Union in warning Israel against taking such positions which will destroy the foundations of the political process, calling on the international community to take a firm stand to comply Israel to go back on such steps.

For his part, Asselborn affirmed his country’s position in support of achieving peace based on the two-state solution and rejection of any measures that could undermine the viability of the two-state solution and not to recognize any changes on the pre-1967 borders, including Jerusalem.
