BAGHDAD, May 17, 2025 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas has called for robust Arab support to strengthen the resilience of the Palestinian people and back government reform initiatives.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa at the Fifth Arab Economic and Social Development Summit held in Baghdad on Saturday, the President emphasized the need to activate the Arab financial safety net, support the Palestinian state budget, and implement development programs tailored specifically to Palestine.
The President stressed that such support is crucial to helping Palestinians remain steadfast on their land and to paving the way for increased Arab and international investment in various sectors to boost Palestine’s economy.
President Abbas also stressed the importance of reaching a unified Arab agreement to implement the initiatives and plans on the summit's agenda.
He expressed sincere gratitude to the Republic of Iraq for hosting this important summit, as well as to the General Secretariat of the Arab League for its ongoing efforts to enhance joint Arab action. He also thanked Lebanon for its leadership of the previous summit.
Reaffirming Palestine’s commitment to working alongside Arab nations and global partners, the President called for collective efforts to achieve security, stability, post-war reconstruction, sustainable development, and a just and comprehensive peace, based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative.
