RAMALLAH, May 17, 2025 (WAFA) – The 34th Ordinary Arab Summit kicked off Saturday in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. The summit was attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Arab leaders, and the Secretaries-General of the United Nations, the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Gulf Cooperation Council, along with dozens of guests from Arab countries, the European Union, and international organizations.

The Kingdom of Bahrain handed over the presidency of the 34th Arab Summit to Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, after Bahrain had chaired the 33rd summit.

Bahraini Foreign Minister, "We Support the Two-State Solution and Reconstruction."

Bahrain's Foreign Minister, Abdullatif Al Zayani, said that his country presented numerous initiatives during the last summit, reflecting its support for the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state.

He expressed support for the two-state solution, the early recovery plan, and the reconstruction of Gaza, which were adopted at the Palestine Summit in Cairo.

He also called for adherence to ceasefire agreements, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid, and ensuring that Palestinians remain on their land as a legitimate right.

Iraqi President: We Reaffirm Our Position Rejecting Displacement

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid said, "The Baghdad Summit is being held under extremely complex circumstances, which places on us a historic responsibility to take the initiative to enhance opportunities for Arab and regional stability, through diplomatic solutions that serve the interests of our peoples and countries, in accordance with international laws based on respect for the sovereignty of states, good neighborliness, mutual cooperation, and the importance of settling disputes through peaceful means and dialogue."

He added, "For nearly a year and a half, the Palestinian people have been subjected to systematic genocide aimed at eliminating the Palestinian presence. While we condemn this aggression, denounce these practices that violate international law, and commend the efforts of the Palestinian people, we affirm our position in rejecting all attempts at displacement to which they are subjected."

He continued, "Common Arab security is indivisible, and we reject any foreign interference that affects Arab countries and threatens their security and peoples, while emphasizing respect for the choices of peoples in building their role and achieving their aspirations, while emphasizing Iraq's commitment to Arab unity."

Iraqi Prime Minister: Genocide Has Reached a Level Unseen in History

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said that his country's vision stems from the Palestinian people obtaining all their rights on their land and for the ongoing aggression to stop. He added that this genocide has reached levels unseen in all history's conflicts, and that we have rejected and continue to reject all attacks against the Palestinian people.

He called for the opening of crossings to humanitarian aid and an end to famine, continuing, "We have all seen the images of children lined up for a bite to eat, perhaps they will obtain it or return empty-handed. We wonder what this generation will remember about this injustice?"

Al-Sudani called for serious work to save the Gaza Strip and reactivate the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) so that it can fulfill its role towards the Palestinian people.
