RAMALLAH, May 17, 2025 (WAFA) - UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned Israel's policy of displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.
Guterres noted that the region and the entire world are facing major challenges and crises that began in Gaza, and that nothing justifies the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.
He called for a permanent ceasefire and an end to the obstruction and denial of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
He added that Israel's plans to expand ground operations are disturbing, and that the United Nations will not participate in announced operations to deliver humanitarian aid that do not comply with international law and humanitarian principles.
He further affirmed full support for UNRWA's work in Gaza and rejected the continued displacement of the population of the Gaza Strip.
Guterres continued, "We must change the situation in the West Bank. Annexation of territory is illegal, settlement construction is illegal, and the two-state solution is the only way to achieve sustainable peace, with Jerusalem as the capital of both states under international law."
