RAMALLAH, Tuesday, April 09, 2019 (WAFA) – The strike the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails started last night to protests their prison conditions was the highlight of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.
The three papers said 150 prisoners have started an open-ended hunger strike after talks with the Israel Prison Service have failed. They will be later joined by more prisoners from all the prisons.
Israeli seizure of Palestinian land in the north and south of the West Bank was also highlighted on the front page of the three dailies. The seizure affected hundreds of dunums of Palestinian land in the Nablus, Hebron
The papers also said extremist Jewish Israelis have called for large scale intrusions into Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem, with al-Quds saying that Israel has banned more than 200 mosque employees and worshippers from being in the compound.
The Israeli elections today were also reported on the front page of the dailies with al-Quds describing them as the most ferocious elections since Israel’s founding.
Al-Quds also said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed US President Donald Trump that he is going to annex parts of the occupied West Bank and the Arab League responded by calling for a strong international reaction.
Al-Ayyam quoted presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh saying that the American so-called deal of the century will not pass and no one can impose it on the Palestinians.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Israeli historian Ilan Pappe saying that Israel is an apartheid state.
It said the United Nations reaffirmed the illegality of the Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories with al-Ayyam quoting Peace Now movement saying that more than 19,000 settlement units and 60,000 settlers were placed in the West Bank during the Netanyahu era.
It said Fatah Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad member has called for protection for the Palestinian people.
