PM Mustafa discusses latest developments and ceasefire efforts with EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process

RAMALLAH, June 11, 2025 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa discussed on Wednesday at his office in Ramallah with the newly appointed EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, Christophe Bigot, the recent developments and efforts to reach a ceasefire and end the ongoing Israeli genocidal war against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

The meeting, attended by Minister of Social Development Samah Hamad and the European Union Representative to Palestine, Alexander Stutzmann, focused on supporting and ensuring the success of the upcoming International Peace Conference to be held next week under the auspices of the United Nations in New York, and the importance of translating its outcomes into concrete steps to stop the war on Gaza, end the occupation, realize a sovereign and independent  Palestinian state, and achieve long-term political and economic stability.

Mustafa stressed that the resolution of the tragedy in Gaza is, first and foremost, a political one, emphasizing that such a resolution would serve as the gateway to addressing all related issues—humanitarian, security, and national—and pave the way for the recovery and reconstruction process in the Strip.

He further underscored the urgent need for increased European pressure on Israel to release withheld Palestinian funds and to cease all illegal deductions from the Palestinian clearance revenues.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Mustafa also briefed the EUSR on the ongoing efforts in institutional reform and development across vital sectors to enhance the quality of services delivered to the Palestinian people.

For his part, the EU diplomat Bigot emphasized the importance of joint efforts to create a political horizon based on the realization of the two-state solution. He reaffirmed the EU’s rejection of Israeli annexation plans and settler attacks, and stressed the need to secure and sustain the ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the entry of humanitarian aid as a prelude to recovery and reconstruction.

He also expressed support for the Palestinian government’s efforts amid the current extremely challenging and difficult conditions.
