Spain condemns deadly Israeli strike on offices of Spanish humanitarian organization in Gaza

MADRID, June 11, 2025 (WAFA) – The Spanish government has condemned an Israeli drone strike that targeted the offices of Médecins du Monde – Spain (Doctors of the World – Spain) in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, resulting in the killing of eight civilians, including three children.

In an official statement released Wednesday, Madrid expressed deep concern over the attack, noting that the targeted facility was a known humanitarian site coordinating aid interventions funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and other branches of Spanish humanitarian cooperation.

The Spanish government emphasized that Israeli authorities had been informed in advance of the building’s humanitarian function, and underscored that such structures are protected under international humanitarian law. "Targeting a facility clearly identified as a humanitarian operation constitutes a potential violation of international law, and we categorically reject it," the statement read.

Spain called for the immediate and full resumption of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and urged Israel to allow the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to operate independently and impartially, in order to save lives, alleviate suffering, and uphold the dignity of civilians.
