Vice President meets EU Special Representative, stresses importance of international conference on two-state solution

RAMALLAH, June 11, 2025 (WAFA) – Vice President of the State of Palestine and PLO Vice Chairman Hussein Al-Sheikh on Wednesday met with European Union (EU) Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Christophe Bigot and stressed the importance of the upcoming high-level international conference on the two-state solution in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah.

During the meeting, attended by the Special Representative's Political Advisor Martin Mikkelsen and the EU Representative in Palestine Alexander Stutzmann, Al-Sheikh and EU Representative Bigot discussed the prospects for political solutions, with a focus on the Palestinian leadership's efforts and priorities to halt Israel’s genocidal war against the Palestinian people.

Al-Sheikh stressed the need to push for a ceasefire, the urgent and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the war-battered Gaza Strip, and the importance of opening a common political horizon.

He commended the EU for its support for the State of Palestine, calling on all EU Member States to take concrete steps toward recognizing the Palestinian state.

He emphasized the importance of the high-level international conference for the implementation of the two-state solution, scheduled to be held in New York, and the opportunity it represents toward achieving a just peace in the region.
