RAMALLAH, March 19, 2018 (WAFA) - PLO Executive Committee Member Hanan Ashrawi urged Denmark to recognize the State of Palestine and "to hold Israel accountable for its ongoing breach of international law and violation of Palestinian rights."
This came during a meeting with Head of the Representative Office of Denmark to the State of Palestine Nathalia Feinberg at the PLO Headquarters in Ramallah, where Ashrawi briefed the former on the latest developments; domestically and regionally.
Both sides reviewed Palestinian-Danish relations and reaffirmed their commitment to forging enhanced relations between the two countries.
Ashrawi expressed her appreciation to Denmark for its voting record in the United Nations, the latest of which was supporting the UNGA resolution rejecting the American President‘s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel‘s capital. In that context, she added that the Trump Administration "was enabling a racist and extremist Israeli coalition that is destroying all chances of peace."
Ashrawi thanked the Danish Government for its support of the two-state solution.
Ashrawi also called on the Danish Government to work with other EU members to support a just political initiative, as well as to continue supporting civil society institutions and increase UNRWA funding.
The two sides also discussed the internal situation and next month‘s Palestine National Council meeting.
Both agreed that reconciliation is an urgent requirement as well as carrying out elections at all levels.
In that context, the role of Palestinian women, youth and civil society was emphasized as a basic requirement for the rejuvenation of Palestinian democracy and the whole political system.
