President Abbas expresses deep gratitude for Turkey's steadfast political positions in support of Palestinian cause

RAMALLAH, August 9, 2025 (WAFA) - During a telephone call with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation for Turkey's steadfast political positions in support of the Palestinian cause.

President Abbas thanked his Turkish counterpart for the continuous humanitarian assistance provided by the Republic of Turkey to the Palestinian people, especially in light of the catastrophic humanitarian conditions facing the Gaza Strip.

The President praised Turkey's honorable stance in rejecting attempts to displace the Palestinian people, stressing the importance of joint coordination between the two countries to confront these Israeli policies that violate international legitimacy and international law.

President Mahmoud Abbas stated that the serious decision by the Israeli occupation government to reoccupy the Gaza Strip and displace its population to the south constitutes a new crime added to the series of Israeli crimes in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, stressing the urgent need to take action to stop it immediately.

The President affirmed that the Palestinian leadership will continue its political efforts at all levels, including addressing the UN Security Council, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to rally international and regional support against these schemes.

President Abbas stressed the importance of enabling the State of Palestine to assume its full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip, and the need for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages and detainees, and the entry of humanitarian assistance. The President underscored the necessity for Palestine to take on security responsibilities with the backing of Arab and international partners, alongside the withdrawal of occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, to ensure the unity of governance, the rule of law, and legitimate arms under the umbrella of the State.

For his part, President Erdoğan stressed Turkey's steadfast positions in support of the Palestinian people and their steadfastness on their land.

The Turkish President affirmed that Turkey would continue its efforts at all levels to achieve a ceasefire and deliver humanitarian aid.

He noted that he had contacted numerous world leaders to discuss the seriousness of the Israeli decision to expand the war and reoccupy the Gaza Strip, stressing that the Israeli decision can never be accepted.

The Turkish president stated that his country supports the Palestinian request to hold an emergency ministerial-level session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss the serious Israeli decisions, noting that Turkey has submitted an urgent request to the OIC to convene the session promptly in its capacity as chair of the current session.
