BEIJING, December 23, 2017 (WAFA) – An official Palestinian delegation held talks in China on Saturday with Chinese officials on the latest political developments following US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

Member of Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Ahmad Majdalani and Nabil Shaath, advisor to President Mahmoud Abbas on international relations, met in Beijing with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and urged him to play a bigger role in the Middle East peace process.

Wang reiterated his country’s support for the creation of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He said it will be impossible to have peace in the Middle East without first resolving the Palestinian issue.

The Palestinians are seeking to bring in world powers to resolve the conflict with Israel after they said the United States, which so far was the only mediator in the conflict, can no longer play that role after it took a unilateral step by recognizing Jerusalem as capital of Israel.
