RAMALLAH, July 16, 2017 (WAFA) – Israel’s intensified security measures in Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque after the closure of the mosque for two days were the highlight of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Quds, al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported in a main headline that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement that al-Aqsa mosque will gradually be reopened to Muslim worshippers after being closed following the shooting attack that resulted in killing three Palestinians and two Israeli police officers.
The three newspapers said that Israel will install cameras and metal detectors around the holy site.
Reactions to the closure of al-Aqsa mosque were reported in the newspapers as well.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Lebanese President Michel Aoun condemned the continuous Israeli violations in al-Aqsa mosque and the closure of the holy site to Muslim worshippers.
Al-Ayyam, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on the Jordanian Minister of Islamic Affairs, Wael Arabiyat, who warned Israel of the continuous closure of the mosque, denouncing it as dangerous.
Palestinian government and officials affirmed for the importance of keeping the historical status of al-Aqsa mosque, according to al-Quds.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Adalah, the Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel called for an immediate investigation in the killing of the three Palestinians in Jerusalem’s shooting attack.
President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed Higher Presidential Committee for Churches Affairs in Palestine in the presidential headquarters in the city of Ramallah, as reported by al-Hayat al-Jadida.
