RAMALLAH, July 13, 2017 (WAFA) – The killing of two Palestinians by Israeli forces during a violent raid that sparked clashes in Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank dominated the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies on Thursday.
The dailies reported two Palestinians, Saad Salah, 21, and Aous Salameh, 16, were killed by Israeli forces during a large-scale raid into Jenin refugee camp.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added at least another Palestinian was shot and injured by Israeli forces during the overnight raid.
The dailies also printed photos for people attending the funeral of the two slain Palestinians.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added Israeli municipality of West Jerusalem demolished three Palestinian-owned structures in East Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabal al-Mukabbir.
Al-Ayyam explained Israeli forces demolished two commercial stores and a car-wash, and injured and detained a young Palestinian man during the raid into the neighborhood.
The dailies also highlighted United Nations agencies’ reports expressing grave concerns over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Al-Quds reported the United Nations (UN) Coordinator for Humanitarian Aid & Development Activities Robert Piper saying the besieged Gaza Strip would be unlivable by 2020.
Al-Quds quoted the UN Development Program’s (UNDP) Three Years After the 2014 Gaza Hostilities –Beyond Survival: Challenges to Economic Recovery and Long-Term Development report that Gaza’s economy is on the verge of total collapse.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported the UN’s Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov stating: “It is impossible to skip over the heads of the Palestinians and work for peace only with the Arab states.”
They also reported him warning of the further deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the besieged Gaza enclave.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denying media reports claiming that Israel has pledged to slow settlement construction in the West Bank to kick-start the peace process.
Al-Quds reported US State Department stating US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman’s participation in a meeting with Palestinian officials was not a diplomatic downgrade for the Palestinians.
The dailies said President Mahmoud Abbas held a meeting with the deputy chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China in Ramallah.
He was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida stating the recent measures taken by the Palestinian Authority (PA) with regards to the Gaza Strip were intended to pressurize the Hamas movement to end its coup.
Al-Quds reported head of Hamas political bureau Ismail Haniyeh expressing Hamas’ willingness to end the division and affirming Gaza won’t separate from the West Bank.
Al-Ayyam said Israeli settlers torched Palestinian olive orchards in Burin village, south of Nablus.
It reported Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization Saeb Erekat and member of Fatah Central Committee Nasser al-Qudwa calling on Europe to recognize the state of Palestine and push for labeling settlement products.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said Spain’s Villena municipality has adopted the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) policy.
