RAMALLAH, July 10, 2017 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah inaugurated on Monday al-Jalameh power transmission plant in Jenin, north of the West Bank, in the presence of Palestinian, Israeli and international figures.
Hamdallah said during the opening ceremony that the plant “will contribute to the provision of sufficient amounts of electricity, which will solve the electricity shortage in Jenin and the surrounding cities.” He added the Palestinian Electricity Transmission Ltd. will be able to diversify the sources of energy import, which will reflect positively on the costs of electricity and the quality of service.
“After months of negotiations, the Energy Authority and the Palestinian Electricity Transmission Ltd. have been able to reach an agreement for the purchase of electric power for the Jalameh station from the Israeli side. This will guarantee our rights and pave the way for a comprehensive and permanent agreement to ensure the transfer and the administration of electricity to the Palestinian side,” Hamdallah said during the ceremony.
He added, “This is part of a comprehensive and integrated system of work for the development of the Palestinian energy sector and the establishment of a Palestinian electricity market with purely national investments.”
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Governor of Jenin, Ibrahim Ramadan, the Acting Minister of Energy Zafer Melhem, the Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz, the Coordinator of the Israeli Government in the West Bank and Gaza, Yoav Mordechai, and foreign diplomats.
